Three Kentucky counties recognized among America's best for economic growth
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky continues to lead the nation in economic development, with three counties recognized among the best in the country, according to Site Selection magazine's latest rankings, according to an announcement from the office of Governor Andy Beshear.
Jefferson, Mercer and Simpson counties were highlighted for their economic development achievements and job creation, reflecting Kentucky's broader economic momentum under the Beshear administration.
The recognition comes as the commonwealth has experienced extraordinary economic growth. Since taking office, Gov. Beshear has announced more than 1,300 private-sector new-location and expansion projects totaling over $50 billion in announced investments, creating more than 70,000 jobs — the highest investment figure secured during any governor's tenure in state history.
Jefferson County's economic success includes major recent announcements. GE Appliances announced a $490 million investment and 800 new full-time jobs at its global corporate headquarters at Appliance Park, while Ford Motor Co. committed a nearly $2 billion investment in its Louisville Assembly Plant to introduce an all-new electric mid-size pickup truck.
Mercer County is being transformed by major technology investments. Apple announced more than $2 billion investment in Corning's Mercer County facility to produce 100% of the cover glass used in iPhones and Apple Watches.
Simpson County has attracted significant retail and logistics investment. Kroger announced a new $391 million full-line distribution center that will create approximately 430 new full-time jobs.
The state's economic development success extends broadly across Kentucky. In 2025, Site Selection magazine ranked Kentucky in the top five nationally and second in the South Central region for economic development projects per capita in its 2024 Governor's Cup rankings.
Unemployment rates have fallen in all 120 Kentucky counties, and in February, the governor announced Kentucky set an all-time record for products shipped globally, with $50.6 billion in exports in 2025.
