Traffic signal activation on Winchester Road delayed to May 5
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that a new traffic signal at the intersection of U.S. 60 (Winchester Road) and Commerce Avenue/realigned Hume Road will become fully operational on Tuesday, May 5 at 9 a.m., according to a KYTC District 7 press release.
The signal was originally scheduled to be activated Thursday, April 30, but KYTC delayed the activation to allow for additional signal system work to be completed. The signal, located at mile point 12.2 in Fayette County, is currently operating in flash mode, meaning drivers must treat the intersection with caution until it becomes fully operational.
The activation marks another traffic safety improvement in the Lexington area, where KYTC has been adding signals to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety. In recent months, the agency has overseen new traffic signal installations at other critical intersections throughout Fayette County.
KYTC District 7 covers Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford counties. The agency emphasized that all work and closures remain tentative and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other unforeseen factors.
Motorists should expect potential traffic changes as the new signal begins full operation and should watch for any temporary traffic advisories from KYTC during the activation period.
