Two Fayette Schools Earn PTA Excellence Designation
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Brenda Cowan Elementary and Dixie Magnet Elementary have been named National PTA Schools of Excellence for 2025-27, a distinction earned by the schools for their work strengthening family engagement and student outcomes. According to Fayette County Public Schools, the two Lexington elementary schools are among 321 schools and PTAs nationwide selected for the two-year national designation.
The National PTA Schools of Excellence program recognizes schools that gather community feedback and develop data-driven action plans to improve family engagement and support student success. Six schools in Kentucky earned the 2025-27 designation, with the two Lexington schools representing half of that group.
Brenda Cowan Elementary, serving around 570 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, operates with a focus on service to others and arts integration. Dixie Magnet Elementary, which enrolls roughly 587 students across pre-K through fifth grade, operates as an open complex magnet school where entrance is determined by lottery or home attendance area.
The award recognizes the schools' commitment to building meaningful partnerships between families and educators. Both schools have demonstrated success in creating positive school climates and fostering learning environments where all students can engage at high levels.
