Both lanes of U.S. 27 in Bourbon County have reopened following a commercial vehicle crash that forced a full closure of the roadway near mile point 2-3, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 7. The highway, also known as Cynthiana Road, is approximately 3 miles north of Paris.

The incident involved a semi-truck hauling batteries that created a hazmat situation, though authorities say the hazmat threat has been stabilized. Only minor injuries were sustained in the crash, with no hospitalizations reported, according to the Bourbon County Sheriff's Office.

Cleanup operations continue from the shoulders of the roadway. Motorists are advised to use extra caution while traveling through the area. The incident forced the deployment of multiple detour routes throughout the day, with local drivers from Paris directed to use KY 1876 and KY 353, while drivers from Cynthiana were routed through KY 1893 and KY 1940. Commercial vehicles were directed to use KY 353 and U.S. 460 as an alternate route.

The closure affected one of the major north-south thoroughfares in central Kentucky. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 7 covers Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford counties.
