UK golfer Simpson honored for community service
LEXINGTON, Ky. — University of Kentucky women's golfer Raleygh Simpson has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced Wednesday, recognizing her extensive volunteer work across the Bluegrass.
The sophomore from Kerrville, Texas, has accumulated more than 80 hours of community service during her two years at Kentucky, including 27 hours in the 2025-26 academic year. Simpson spent considerable time with the Lexington Humane Society, Kentucky Children's Hospital and God's Pantry, where she cared for animals and surprised children with gifts while packing meals for underprivileged families.
Additional volunteer work included passing out medals at Girls on the Run, collecting bottle tops for the Ronald McDonald House and helping load food and supplies for The Nest.
Simpson's 2025-26 season also marked significant growth on the course. She posted a 74.2 stroke average, improving from a 76.6 average through her first 16 rounds to 72.4 over her final 15 rounds. The improvement included a career-best 18-hole round of 68 (-4) and four top-20 finishes, including two in the top 10.
Her performance proved crucial to Kentucky's NCAA postseason run. During the NCAA Tallahassee Regional in mid-May, Simpson holed out from 143 yards for an eagle on the par-4 18th hole, providing the decisive shot her team needed to advance from the regional cut line. At the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, California, she led her team with a 2-over-par 218.
Simpson joins other SEC athletes recognized annually for community service efforts. The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 22 league-sponsored sports, highlighting athletes who give back to their communities through volunteer service.
