LEXINGTON, Ky. — WORK-Lexington is partnering with the Kentucky Career Center to host a virtual job fair for Fayette County Public Schools employees facing layoffs and hours reductions.

The job fair will take place Wednesday, June 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Employers from across the state can participate in the event, offering displaced school workers opportunities to connect with potential employers during a difficult time for the district.

"This is an important opportunity to help Fayette County Public Schools," Mayor Linda Gorton said in a statement. "These are our neighbors and friends who are struggling right now."

Fayette County Public Schools announced earlier this month that more than 115 district support positions are being cut ahead of the 2026-27 school year. The layoffs follow revelations that the district's financial records have been "fundamentally misstated" for nearly two decades, creating a severe budget crisis.

WORK-Lexington is an initiative of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government designed to provide economic and workforce development services through training, retraining, and employment support. The program offers free on-site assistance with job applications and resumes, job connections and placements, and program referrals.

"Through strong partnerships with employers and state and local organizations, we are able to connect these employees with the essential services, resources, and job opportunities they need to take their next steps," Gorton said.

Employers interested in participating in the virtual job fair can register online. The initiative represents one of the city's efforts to support workers impacted by the school district's ongoing financial difficulties and restructuring.
