LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government announced that the closure of Wilson Downing Road will be extended through Friday, August 7 to allow for final paving of a new roundabout project.

Wilson Downing Road from Tates Creek Road to Camelot Drive remains closed to through traffic 24 hours a day, though local traffic can still reach homes and businesses in the area. The city recommends that drivers use Tates Creek Road, Laredo Drive and Camelot Drive as alternate routes.

The road work includes converting the four-way stop at Belleau Wood and Walden Drives into a mini roundabout, marking the first roundabout of its kind in a Lexington neighborhood. The roundabout will feature crosswalks and small raised refuge islands that allow pedestrians to cross only a single lane of traffic at a time, improving safety for pedestrians navigating the intersection.

Additionally, a dedicated right turn lane will be added to eastbound Wilson Downing Road at the intersection of Tates Creek Road. The improvements are part of a broader effort by the city to reduce congestion and enhance safety for both pedestrians and drivers.

A new entrance to Pebble Creek Drive from Wilson Downing Road was constructed beginning in June, while the entrance from Belleau Wood Drive to Pebble Creek Drive has been permanently closed to create space for the roundabout.
