Architectural board set to review preservation projects across Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Board of Architectural Review is scheduled to meet Wednesday to consider 23 staff-approved projects and five applications requiring board consideration for work across Lexington's historic districts.
The Board of Architectural Review holds public hearings to review applications for exterior changes to properties located in any of the local historic districts, which require a Certificate of Appropriateness permit.
The staff approvals on the agenda span nine of Lexington's 15 historic districts, including Aylesford, Bell Court, Cadentown, Fayette Park, Mulberry Hill, Northside, Pensacola Park, Seven Parks, South Hill and Woodward Heights districts.
Proposed staff-approved work ranges from window and door replacements and structural refurbishments to tree removals and porch renovations. Among the items scheduled for approval without board review are renovations to structures in the Woodward Heights district, including work at 854 West High Street stemming from storm damage.
Five projects are scheduled for full board consideration as Certificate of Appropriateness applications. Among them is a proposal at 215 Desha Road in Ashland Park Historic District to construct two front dormers and one rear dormer with a rear covered porch. Another application at 265 South Ashland Avenue in the South Ashland/Central Avenue Historic District calls for construction of a side Porte Cochere but is scheduled to continue until May 20, 2026.
Property owners within Lexington's 15 historic districts must obtain approval to make changes to the exterior of buildings and sites. Staff can approve minor changes, but substantial modifications must be reviewed and approved by the Board of Architectural Review.
The meeting is set to begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Council Chamber, Government Center, 200 E. Main St.
