LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will close Athens Walnut Hill Pike in Fayette County beginning Tuesday, May 26, at 8 a.m. through Friday, May 29 to repair a slide area affecting the roadway near the bridge carrying the road over Interstate 75.

The KYTC District 7 advises that emergency vehicles and local traffic will be permitted through the area when possible during the closure. The four-day shutdown is necessary for crews to perform repairs to the slide, which threatens the integrity of the roadway structure at the bridge crossing.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes during the closure, including U.S. 25 (Old Richmond Road) and KY 418 (Athens Boonesboro Road). The cabinet advises drivers to use caution and watch for signage and personnel in the work area.

The closure represents part of the KYTC's ongoing maintenance efforts across its network of roadways in the region. According to the transportation cabinet, similar infrastructure repairs have been conducted regularly in Fayette County to address maintenance needs and safety concerns.
