LEXINGTON, Ky. — WORK-Lexington, the city's primary workforce initiative, is partnering with the Kentucky Career Center – Bluegrass/American Job Center to host a virtual job fair for Fayette County Public School employees affected by recent layoffs. The job fair will take place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 17.

Fayette County Public Schools announced the elimination of 120 district-level support positions, including 49 hourly and 71 salaried roles across centralized support departments. The layoffs come after the district revealed significant financial inaccuracies dating back to 2008.

"This is an important opportunity to help our neighbors and friends who are struggling right now," said Mayor Linda Gorton. "WORK-Lexington is designed to help people find jobs. Through strong partnerships with employers and state and local organizations, we are able to connect these employees with the essential services, resources, and job opportunities they need to take their next steps."

Employers from across the state will be able to participate in the job fair. The Kentucky Career Center – Bluegrass has four brick-and-mortar locations and remote access available in 17 counties of the Bluegrass region, with staff able to match job seekers with employers, provide one-on-one assistance with resumes, help practice interview skills, and identify transferrable skills.

Interested participants must register in advance. WORK-Lexington offers free services for residents including on-site assistance with job applications and resumes, job connections and placements, and program referrals.
