Council to consider FY27 budget proposals in Tuesday committee meeting
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council's Committee of the Whole is scheduled to meet Tuesday at 1 p.m. to discuss fiscal year 2027 budget proposals, according to the meeting agenda posted by the city. The session will feature financial updates, council member recommendations, and presentations from budget subcommittees known as "links."
The agenda includes a monthly financial update for April of the current fiscal year, late budget items submitted by the mayor's office, and a summary of budget recommendations from council members and the link committees. Individual council member proposals for government center security equipment and a digital accessibility plan for information technology are also scheduled for discussion.
Fiscal Year 2027 begins July 1, 2026 and ends June 30, 2027. The council must adopt the new budget by June 15, according to the city's charter. The budget process has been underway since Mayor Linda Gorton presented her proposed FY27 budget in April.
The May 26 meeting is one of several scheduled discussions on the budget. The council held its first Committee of the Whole on April 21 to begin budget discussions, followed by a mayor's budget hearing on May 14 where the public offered input. Another Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for May 28 to continue budget discussions.
Council members submitted individual budget amendment requests by May 13, which will be reviewed and discussed at this week's meetings. The final budget votes are slated for June 4 for the first reading and June 9 for the second and final reading.
The Tuesday meeting appears on the city's official Granicus agenda system and will be held in the Council Chamber at 200 E. Main Street.
