LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will implement temporary overnight lane closures on Interstate 75 northbound and southbound from Sunday, April 26, through Thursday, April 30, according to a press release from KYTC District 7. The work will allow contractors to install overhead sign trusses as part of the ongoing I-75 widening project.

Closures will occur nightly between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., with specific lanes affected varying by date. On Sunday, the single left lane on I-75 northbound between mile markers 113-115 will close at 7 p.m., while the single and double right lanes on I-75 southbound between mile markers 114-113 will close at 8 p.m. Similar closures continue Monday through Thursday on different segments of the highway. Law enforcement will be present to direct traffic during all closure periods.

Motorists should expect delays and consider seeking alternate routes during the five-day construction window. Waze and GoKY are recommended for real-time traffic monitoring.

The I-75 widening project extends from Paris Pike (U.S. 68) to the I-75/I-64 Southern Split and is expected to be completed in 2026. The project is part of the broader Driving Lexington Progress initiative, which aims to reduce congestion and improve safety throughout the 2-mile corridor. The work represents the second phase of widening I-75/I-64 to four lanes in each direction throughout Fayette County.

All closures remain tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions, emergencies, and other unforeseen factors beyond the Department of Highways' control.
