Keeneland adds two yearlings to September Sale Book 1
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Keeneland announced Aug. 20 that two additional horses have been supplemented to Book 1 of the September Yearling Sale, bringing the total catalog for the world's most important Thoroughbred auction to 4,642 yearlings.
The colt by Yaupon, Hip 184, will sell on the opening day of the sale Sept. 14. The yearling is out of Dame Iris, by Medaglia d'Oro, and is consigned by Hunter Valley Farm. He traces to the family of Irish highweight Bachelor Duke and includes Grade 1 winner Talco and Grade/Group 2 winners Spanish Mission and Asbury Park in his pedigree.
The filly by Tapit, Hip 377, is cataloged for the second session Sept. 15. Consigned by Gainesway, the filly is a half-sister to champion and freshman sire Forte. She is out of stakes winner Queen Caroline, by Blame.
The 2026 edition of the September Yearling Sale runs Sept. 14-26 across 12 sessions at the Lexington track. The sale features 4,642 yearlings by 189 sires, including numerous first-crop stallions. Last year's September Sale was the world's highest-grossing Thoroughbred auction in history with $531.7 million in sales for 3,078 horses.
Books 1 and 2 during Week 1 comprise the first four days of the auction, when more than 1,100 yearlings representing the sale's highest concentration of sire power, pedigree and physical quality will be offered. Yaupon, sire of the supplemented colt, dominated the 2025 freshman sire standings with 39 winners from 174 starts, establishing himself as the clear leader of the debut stallion class.
