Kentucky awarded $13.6M to replace 8 bridges on U.S. 60
LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky has been awarded $13.6 million in federal funding to replace eight bridges along U.S. 60 in Bath County, according to the Office of the Governor.
The bundled bridge replacement projects will ensure safe crossings and remove weight restrictions along the critical eastern Kentucky route, officials said. The work is expected to improve infrastructure in the region while enhancing safety for motorists traveling the highway.
U.S. 60 serves as an important transportation corridor through Bath County, connecting communities in Eastern Kentucky. The current bridges have faced limitations that required weight restrictions, impacting the movement of commercial vehicles and agricultural equipment through the area.
Gov. Andy Beshear's office announced the funding as part of efforts to modernize Kentucky's aging infrastructure. The projects represent investments in the state's road and bridge network, which has faced increasing maintenance demands.
Officials did not provide specific timelines for the bridge replacement work or identify which bridges along the route would be addressed first. The funding will be utilized across multiple phases of the bundled projects.
