LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will close lanes on Interstate 75 northbound Thursday night for pothole repair work on the Newtown Pike and Cane Run bridges spanning the heavily traveled corridor in Fayette County.

Work is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to midnight May 7, weather permitting. According to a KYTC District 7 press release, I-75 northbound will be reduced to a single lane between mile points 114.6 and 116.7 during the operation. The Newtown Pike ramps providing access to northbound I-75 will also be closed.

Motorists trying to reach I-75 northbound during work hours can continue east on Newtown Pike (KY 922), turn left onto Iron Works Pike (KY 1973), and follow signage to the I-75 northbound entrance ramp. The alternate route offers drivers a way to navigate around the work zone without using the closed ramps.

"Motorists should expect delays and are advised to use caution, reduce speed and watch for personnel and equipment in the work zone," the press release states. The closure affects a critical corridor where locals frequently use Newtown Pike as a bypass route during peak traffic.

The KYTC Operations and Pavement Management Branch manages pothole repair and pavement maintenance across the state's roadway network. The cabinet maintains over 27,600 centerline miles of roadways.
