The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is advising motorists that nightly lane closures are scheduled on U.S. 421 beneath the Interstate 64 bridge near Midway in Woodford County, beginning Friday, July 10, weather permitting.

Closures will occur nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow crews to paint the bridge beams over the highway. The work is expected to continue on a nightly basis until completion. U.S. 421, also known as West Leestown Pike, is a major route connecting Lexington to Frankfort and serves as a critical link between the two communities.

Motorists are urged to use extra caution and watch for signage and personnel while traveling through the work zone. Drivers can monitor traffic conditions using GoKY or similar traffic apps before and during their travel through the area.

Bridge maintenance painting is a routine preservation effort by KYTC to protect structural steel from corrosion. According to KYTC standards, maintenance painting protects steel against corrosion accelerated by atmospheric moisture and deicing salts, which can weaken load-bearing elements if left unchecked.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet notes that all work and closures are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather, emergencies, and other factors beyond the department's control. KYTC District 7 covers Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott, and Woodford counties.
