Lexington adjusts waste collection for July Fourth holiday, early start due to heat
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The City of Lexington is adjusting its waste collection schedule for the July Fourth holiday, with no regular collection on Friday, July 4, according to a city announcement. Residents and businesses with Friday service will have collections moved to Wednesday, July 2.
Residents who normally receive curbside pickup on Fridays should place carts out after 4 p.m. on Tuesday to ensure Wednesday collection. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday service will not be affected by the holiday.
The city is also implementing an early start time for waste collection services from Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 2 due to expected high temperatures. Residential collection will begin at 4:30 a.m., while commercial services will start at 3:30 a.m. Carts should be placed at the curb the night before each collection day to accommodate the earlier schedule.
The Haley Pike Waste Management Facility, the Lexington Recycle Center and the Electronics Recycle Center will be closed on Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5. Dumpster collection for businesses will be adjusted with Friday pickups moved to Wednesday, July 2.
For questions about collection schedules, residents can contact LexCall at 311 or (859) 425-2255. The city also offers text or email alerts about collection changes due to holidays and weather.
