LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council held a work session Tuesday to consider a slate of funding agreements, capital projects and infrastructure improvements totaling millions of dollars.

Among the major items on the agenda was authorization for a $50,000 memorandum of understanding with the Boys and Girls Club of the Bluegrass to expand youth programming and services through June 2027. The agreement will fund mentorship, athletics and violence prevention programs within the community.

The council also addressed federal funding for a major intersection improvement project. A mini-roundabout will be constructed at the Wilson Downing Road and Belleau Wood Drive intersection to reduce congestion and improve safety. The council approved accepting $868,000 in federal Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act funds and $65,600 in Surface Transportation Program funds for the project's construction phase, with a total construction budget of $950,000.

Other initiatives included a $250,000 contract with Tunnel, Spangler, Walsh & Associates for development of a streamlined Unified Development Code to be completed by June 30, 2027, and acceptance of $3.7 million in federal housing and community development funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for fiscal year 2027.

The council also approved a change order for the Whitney Young Community Building project to address a failed septic system and structural modifications, increasing the contract by $31,219.37. Additional items included authorization to submit an application for federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant funding to support a Safe Routes to School pilot initiative.
