Lexington police officer charged with distributing obscene material to minor
LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Lexington Police Officer has been charged with Distribution of Obscene Matter to a Minor and Tampering with Physical Evidence, according to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.
Officer Nathaniel Schickler was issued a criminal summons on May 20, 2026, and directed to appear in court. The charges involve a 17-year-old victim. Effective immediately, Schickler was relieved of his sworn duties and transferred to an administrative assignment as the Lexington Police Department conducts an internal review of the incident, in accordance with department policy.
Local news outlets confirmed the charges following the department's announcement. The Lexington Police Department, which has an authorized strength of 641 sworn officers and nearly 150 civilian personnel, is the largest division within the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.
