LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet issued a traffic alert Wednesday following severe weather that spawned downed trees and utility lines across Highway District 7, forcing the closure of multiple roadways in Anderson, Jessamine and Woodford counties.

In Anderson County, U.S. 127 Business at mile point 1.4 remains closed due to a downed tree. In Jessamine County, KY 1267 at Cushingberry Lane is shut down because of a tree that fell on a phone line. Woodford County reported the most extensive damage, with Midway Road closed between Old Frankfort Pike and U.S. 60 due to multiple downed trees and utility poles, and Old Frankfort Pike closed between Pisgah Pike and the Fayette County line after a tree fell on utility lines.

The severe weather that struck central Kentucky resulted in downed trees, traffic impacts and thousands of power outages across the Commonwealth. As of early Thursday, over 4,000 customers in Fayette County were without power, according to local reports. The storm also caused structural damage, with an Ollie's Bargain Outlet in Jessamine County experiencing a partial roof collapse.

The cabinet urged motorists to exercise extreme caution around roadway hazards, including downed trees, debris and power lines. Officials warned drivers never to touch or drive over a fallen power line, and to report such hazards to the power company immediately. If a power line falls on a vehicle, occupants should remain inside and sound the horn or call for help before contacting 911. The Transportation Cabinet advised assuming all downed power lines are live and warned against attempting to move one using any materials.

District 7 encompasses 12 central Kentucky counties: Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford. Motorists can monitor real-time traffic conditions using GoKY or Waze on their smartphones.
