LEXINGTON, Ky. — The bridge on Tates Creek Road (KY 169) in Madison County will remain closed indefinitely as the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet works on repairs necessary to reopen the structure safely, according to a KYTC press release.

The bridge near Perkins/Ashcraft Road at mile point 11 sustained damage during flash flooding that swept through Madison County on June 27, devastating communities in the region. After conducting inspections and analysis, KYTC officials determined that more in-depth repairs are needed before the bridge can be safely reopened to traffic.

Motorists should continue using KY 1156 (Jacks Creek Road) as an alternate route while road repair plans are developed. The KYTC has placed cones, barrels and barricades at damaged areas to protect the traveling public. Officials emphasize that motorists should never drive around barricades and should follow posted signage in the area.

The closure is part of a broader infrastructure challenge facing the region. Multiple roads and bridges across central Kentucky were damaged or destroyed by the flooding, with at least four deaths reported statewide. Three of those deaths occurred in Madison County, including a vehicle swept away on Tates Creek Road itself.
