LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced a temporary partial intersection closure at Newtown Pike and Nandino Boulevard starting Sunday evening for pavement reconstruction work related to the Newtown Pike widening project.

Beginning at 7 p.m. on August 2, traffic will shift to the northern side of the intersection as contractors demolish old pavement in preparation for repaving. One lane in each direction will be maintained on Nandino Boulevard during the work period. The intersection is expected to return to normal traffic flow by Wednesday, August 12, weather permitting.

The closure affects the southern side of the intersection closest to New Circle Road. All traffic will be routed to the northern side until work is complete. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advised motorists to plan for possible delays and use caution when traveling through the work zone.

This work is part of the larger Newtown Pike (KY 922) widening project, which will add a lane in each direction on Newtown Pike from New Circle Road to I-75 when completed in 2027. The project aims to improve safety and traffic flow while increasing capacity to handle current and future traffic volumes. The project also includes improvements to the Legacy Trail.

Work schedules are tentative and subject to change based on weather conditions and other unforeseen circumstances.
