All eastbound lanes on Interstate 64 in Montgomery County were temporarily blocked on August 3 after an oversized commercial vehicle became stuck in a construction zone near mile marker 105, according to a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet press release. The highway has since reopened.

The wide-load truck created a significant traffic disruption along a heavily traveled corridor. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office recommended drivers detour at Exit 101, follow U.S. 60, and reenter the interstate at Exit 110. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet urged motorists to use alternate routes while crews cleared the roadway.

The incident occurred during an extensive rehabilitation project. The $19.6 million project spans 16 miles of I-64 from mile point 101.7 to mile point 117.8 across Clark, Montgomery, and Bath counties and includes bridge repairs, drainage improvements, and repaving. Work at the specific location involved crossover operations at a bridge over Prewitt-Grassy Lick Road, where traffic had been shifted to a single lane in each direction.

Motorists are advised to monitor GoKY.ky.gov for live traffic updates and road conditions. The transportation cabinet noted that all work and closures remain subject to change based on weather, emergencies, and other unforeseen circumstances. The overall I-64 rehabilitation project is scheduled for completion by November 1, 2026.
