Council to discuss FY27 budget, Red Mile TIF expansion Tuesday
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Urban County Council is set to hold a work session Tuesday afternoon to discuss a range of proposals before moving key items to the full council meeting later in the week.
The council will hear presentations on the fiscal year 2027 budget and the Downtown Lexington Management District budget during the 3 p.m. meeting in the Council Chamber. A presentation on the Downtown Lexington Management District's FY27 budget is also scheduled, according to the agenda.
The FY27 budget will receive its first reading Thursday, setting up final adoption votes as the council works to meet the June 15 deadline required by the city charter. The Tuesday session allows council members to discuss the spending plan before the formal reading.
The agenda also indicates a public hearing on a proposed expansion of the Red Mile Tax Increment Financing Development Area will occur during Thursday's full council meeting. The expansion would affect the area around the Red Mile gaming and racing facility, which regularly hosts major events including Railbird Music Festival.
The work session includes discussion of roughly 17 new business items, including proposals to purchase 15 dumpster units for $102,884.79 to replace aging infrastructure and expand recycling locations, and to allocate $400,000 to Legal Aid of the Bluegrass. The council is also set to consider agreements for paramedic training, carbon monoxide detector purchases through federal grants, and facility management services adjustments.
Work sessions typically allow council members to ask questions and discuss policies, with most formal voting deferred to full council meetings. Council members have the chance to ask questions and discuss policies with each other and city staff during work sessions, according to city information.
Thursday's full council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 200 E. Main St.
