Lexington Urban County Council sets June 4 agenda for zoning, budget decisions
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The Urban County Council is scheduled to consider a series of zoning changes, budget amendments and proposed charter modifications on Thursday according to the meeting agenda.
The council's 6 p.m. meeting at the Council Chambers will include a public hearing on a proposal to expand the Red Mile Development Area as part of the city's tax increment financing program. The expansion, which would add property to the existing development area, does not change the list of approved infrastructure improvements or previously committed tax revenue reimbursements.
Three zoning changes are set for second reading on the agenda: a Townhouse Residential to Neighborhood Business zone change at 3433 Country Club Drive; a Single Family Residential to Medium Density Residential zone change at 3000 Clays Mill Road near a Baptist church; and a Professional Office to Neighborhood Business zone change at 456 East High Street.
The council will also consider the fiscal year 2027 budget on first reading, which includes appropriations across numerous funds including the General Services District, Public Safety Fund, Sanitary Sewer Revenue and Operating Fund, and others. The budget process requires two readings before final adoption.
Additional first-reading items include an ordinance proposing a charter amendment that would set council member salaries at no more than $59,987 annually beginning January 2031, adjusted for inflation using 2027 as the base year. The proposal would be placed on the November 3, 2026 general election ballot.
The agenda also includes a presentation recognizing Mulberry & Lime's 25th anniversary, the home furnishing boutique located in the historic Matthew Kennedy House on North Limestone Street.
